Biography, Past and Present
Criminy.
I hate writing these things. This explains why it's been a year since I last tried, and gave up in an orgiastic frenzy of a list. This time, I'm contemplating listing the contents of my five latest purchases. But that's vaguely predictable, and not a little boring.
I'm a very lucky person.
I have a good education, and a job that keeps me clothed, fed, sheltered, and helps me ensure that I'll be able to retire one day. I grew up with a love of reading and learning, and I can find joy in many little things. I'm pretty good in a crisis, and I've got a decent sense of priorities.
I'm lucky to live in a country where I have the freedom to be a fully functioning member of my society. I can vote, I can speak my piece, I can plow my own path.I have access to diverse thoughts and opinions that challenge my own. I form my own opinions and ideas; no one tells me what to think (or to pretend to think) without a swift kick in the pants.
I learned early that it was okay to be different, that knowledge can liberate a person.
I am snarky and I am nice. If there's a fundamental conflict in my character, that's where it lies. I try to use my best judgment about who can take the snark, and try to ensure they understand the motivations behind it. I'm usually pretty successful, but the times I've miscalculated have been lousy.
